Hudson Falls #7 "TICKing Me Off"

Hi Family!!!

Wow. This week has been NUTZ. And it seems it is only going to get nutzier. But I am very proud of myself for having a positive attitude!!! Woot woot! There IS hope for me!

Monday... thrift store shopping. May have already told you that. Dinner was at Sister McCormick's who is my favorite lady in this area. She feeds us every Monday and we clean her house and paint and stuff for her. She used to be an EMT and she saw my leg and freaked me out!! She demanded I went to the hospital right away. I said no, it's not that bad, but I gave in and did call Sister Wirthlin. I love Sister Wirthlin. Sister North wants me to call Sister Wirthlin for pretty much every little thing that hurts on me, but this is the 2nd time I gave in. Good heavens I did!! Sister Wirthlin is always like you're fine... let me do more research and get back to you. She got back to us and was like It's not fine at all. The rest of the news is just all a blur!

Tuesday... the elders had us see all their awesome people while Elder Kelly went on his end of mission temple trip. We were so busy!  Super fun driving allll over the place like crazy people but sooo painful. I cannot even describe what it felt like. All through out Tuesday Sister Wirthlin and the "area doctor" Dr. Braithwaite was calling me tons trying to figure stuff out. I was just in a daze and somewhat dying so I can't even remember what was going on! In the end, I have a TICK BITE!!! Even better Lyme disease :) PARTY!!!! It's hilarious how crazy this has been. I am so sick of telling people about it. Literally every member that hears about it is like "As long as you don't get the bullseye ring you're fine." I ALREADY GOT THAT! Then they frreak out and freak me out even more. But the Dr. man prescribed me to some antibiotics that I take 2x a day for two weeks. If it still hurts at the end of the 2 weeks or if the first red ring gets bigger I have to call the Dr. man. So far so good! Yesterday was the first day that the pain went away!! I'm jumping ahead of myself.

Wednesday... Elders came home and gave me a blessing. Basically the blessing said I need to listen to Sister North, Sister Wirthlin and the Dr. man and the pain will go away. Haha We've established from this week that Sister North is ALWAYS right :) Love her. Wednesday night things got psycho again. Sister North had a migrane. Bishop gave her a blessing. But she wanted to go to the ER. So... after many more calls to Sister Wirthlin, we went! Da freak! I've never been to the ER! I didn't know what to do! Because I can't drive with my leg right now, a member had to drive us. Sweet Grandma Nicholson (I tried on her wedding dress). She stayed with us the whole time! Everything was fine after they gave her some drugs and we went home at like 1:30. I was able to make jokes the whole time in the ER and make things less freaky... her Dr. Black looked like a total pirate!! He became Dr. Blackbeard. Because of the pain in my leg, I haven't been able to sleep at all so I hardly slept that night. Ugh. Struggle bus.

Thursday....We had to leave for ZTM at like 7.... we had permission not to go (we weren't giving a training at this one... good Gandhi, right?) but Sister N said she felt fine and could go. We looked like a train wreck!! ZTM was great. Really different but I like how they're starting to do roleplays. The leaders for the zone were just member presents/ observers and the Zone Leaders still made up ridiculous identities for us... they made me Elder Kelly's mom. Haha So weird. Because Sister N thinks her migrane was from the stress of not knowing if she's staying with me or not, Sister Wirthlin just told her.
Friday, President called and affirmed that. He said "I'm not gonna rock your world this transfer... you're staying together and you're staying Sister Training Leaders." I didn't really want to be an STL still.... cuz I just want to focus on our area. It's growing so much and needs so much love right now! I guess the Lord has a different plan though.

Saturday morning... TRANSFER CALLS. You wouldn't think we'd really care about these calls cuz we already knew. But E. Britton calls us that morning freaking out saying he feels like he's going to leave. Ridiculous cuz E. Kelly's leaving and that would mean two noobs would have to come in and take over. He hasn't been here very long and the members love him to death. We were meeting them at the church to practice our song for Sacrament meeting (I made them sing another musical # ha!) when we got transfer calls. We went to our car and they just watched from the window of the church. Elder Brook-house-en is the new Assistant. TOTALLY called it!!!! Every time he says something smart I say "That's my math tutor." The Zone Leaders gimme lots of crap about him and call me Sister Brook-house-en. Punks. So that's cool that he's the AP. But then they told us that Elder Britton's leaving. What?? Who's coming. No one. You're gonna cover both areas. WHAT?!?!?! We can barely cover our own and be stls! We flipped out for a few hours and it was so sad to see Elder Britton crying...

But we have so much faith now that it's going to all work out!! He's going to Malone. I guess only 2 elders came into the mission and like 20 left so they closed lots of areas.

It's going to be a crrazy week for us!

Hudson Falls #6 "MIRACLES"

Every week with an exchange is a big growing week for me. I get somewhat nervous before exchanges though. Especially with really old sisters who are much much better missionaries and people than I am!
So, since Bennington had an ET, we now were told not to do a second exchange. So we did a swap! I went to Saratoga Springs with Sister Maxwell and Sister North stayed here with Sister Hansen. These sisters don't seem to like us very much so we were pretty nervous. But Sister Maxwell and I had a fun time and I got her to laugh a ton! That's how each exchange turns out so idk why I get nervous!! :)

So many miracles are happening with the fast! We picked up 3 new investigators last week and... FIVE this week!!!!
The coolest EVER is a man named Jim. Oh. My. Gosh. So,this was all while I was on exchange in Saratoga. Sister Hansen and Sister North are tracting... knock on a door, this old lady named Shirley answers (adorable grandma) but she says she's gonna die a Catholic so, no thanks. But, they walk away, pick some flowers and this man in his 50s opens the door and says,"Ya know, her son reads the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price!" They're like WHAAA? Who is her son? It was him. They say, Well, are you a member? He says No, not yet!
AHHHH!!! He's getting baptized on June 27th.

Over our exchange we picked up three new investigators. It was amazing. Sometimes I'm a little shocked at the miracles that happen. Being a missionary is amazing. The Lord is preparing people everywhere!!!

Another crazy story from this week:
I am being absolutely eaten by mosquitos. and spiders I think. I have a huuuge bite on my calf that is cramping my muscle and I can barely walk.

It's beyond awful. I'm keeping ice on it. If it goes another day and keeps swelling, I'm going to cut it off. Ha, no. But I'm getting a blessing right when the elders get back from their exchange/temple trip. That's beside the point. As we were right about to go to bed, I look up at the ceiling and see thousands of bugs. No exaggeration. We were screaming and freaking out!!!

No wonder I'm being eaten! We quickly took all of the blankets out our beds, threw our mattresses down the stairs (we have 3 floors in this house.. it's kind of ridiculous) and we took a video of us spraying bug spray on the bugs as they attacked us! Haha! It was so freaky! We haven't gone in there for over a day!

Sure love you all! Thanks for all your support and your prayers!!
Sister Hawtstuff

Dr. Braithwaite,
My companion saw the bite Saturday morning after going on a nature walk. I didn't realize it because I have so many other mosquito bites. It's on my right calf. The first day it started swelling like a normal bite. The second day it started to swell a lot more. The bite was red about an inch or two across, but there was a lighter pink ring around it about 3-4 inches wide. My muscle was aching and tight. It hurts to walk on it or straighten it and I can't drive. Now the swelling has gone down around the bite, but it has spread through out my whole leg, more in my ankle. It's still hurting and the bite is hot.
Thanks for your help!

Second picture is today.
Sorry they're so blurry!

Mom, So, apparently I got bit by a tick. Everyone's scaring me into thinking I'm dying here. I can barely walk and I haven't been able to sleep hardly at all because of the pain. I got a blessing today. Just pray for me because I am so sick of it. I got antibiotics prescribed to me yesterday by the dr. and I'm taking them 2x a day for 2 weeks. If the first red ring goes beyond the circle it's at now, then I'm supposed to call him. It sounds like I've already got the signs of lime disease but it should be fine in 2 weeks!! Love you buye!

You can't see the rain but it's pouuuuring! I looove it!

On  exchanges, we went to a mini downton abbey in Saratoga!!!

Like, the presidential bath house. Something weird like that but it's super old.

Mom!! We were in a lesson last night and this lady started talking about her 1950s wedding dress. I said to pull it out! She did and she said "It might fit you. Try it on!" ahhhhhh I died of happiness. It fit perfectly!! Totally worth getting home late ;)

We went thrift store shopping today and picked out outfits for everyone. SO fun! Of course I loved it.

Hudson Falls #5 "Some Sweaty Sisters"

So, the week before last was the very first full week that it didn't snow once! Success! Now... it's beyond humid and I know this is only the beginning. I LOVE IT!!! Sister North thinks I'm a psycho person because I'm loving this weather so much. I have a total afro and I've been barefoot more often than not this week. HEAVEN. I truly believe I've been placed in the most beautiful mission in the world. God knows me so well and I'm so grateful He's given me New England. That's pretty much all I want to write about, but I won't.

Monday, had our district activity... bowling. Obviously I sucked but I like playing with missionaries much more than anyone else. They're nicer. They have to be. Elder Sander said he'd give me a dollar if I made it past 20. Ha. Rude. But I got a dollar in the end! We exchanged with Bennington then and I missed Sister North a lot. I was with Sister Yancey here and we really saw a lot of miracles!! It was exciting. It always excites me to do something a little different than the missionaries before you did and try to change things up a bit. I did some of that while Sister North was away and people we never thought would be worth trying were interested! We picked up the main librarian lady- Sarah! She's beyond adorable. She's 23 and basically old-fashioned Brynn's twin. Missionaries have been trying to teach her for a year, but look what good just asking did!
Sister Yancey and I really connected which was so good for her. She's had a really really rough two transfers. I feel like I kind of inflicted this Sister Rasheed madness on her by switching spots, but through a lot of craziness this week, Sister Yancey is being moved to the Owego Zone and a sister named Sister Blade has come! So..... Bennington's being basically white-washed again. Sister Yancey tried to prepare things for the new sister but she said she basically just left a note that says 'Call Sister Hallsted in Hudson Falls'. So I'm still going to be basically over Bennington still it seems like. Sister Rasheed leaves in 2 weeks back to temple square so hopefully things will work out. Sister Blade seems great!! We're praying for her a lot. Bennington is obviously so precious to me and people still consider it my area so I hope it can be helped.

Btw, we did a mission wide fast last Sunday to find new investigators and our mission is being SO blessed!!! It's crazy!! We found 3 new awesome people this week and the sisters that we're over are seeing so many miracles as well as the elders in G.F. I love fasting!!!

Well, I've got to go, but I love you all SO much. Skyping was just a party and a half!! I am so so grateful to have the coolest, craziest family ever!

Sister Hallzy
(what Jackson calls me)

out on a walk on p day

We walk the most gorgeous path each morning and the elders are going to start joining us on Saturdays when the gym is closed. SO fun! I went barfoot of course.... I went barefoot a lot this week and I probably won't stop. It's great!! The elders thought they'd try it. E Kelly nearly died :)

Here's the good picture that was on the District Meeting program.

Sister North likes her naps

Correlation meeting (where you meet with the ward mish leader). After it was over, I wanted a jacket cuz I was cold, but they only had baby ones in the church coat rack. Hahaha So E Britton and I tried on the baby jackets. It kind of hurt.

Mothers Day for the non-mothers

Autistic boy who Sister North adores

There's gorgeous bright yellow/green blossoms all over the ground right now! So I got creative one day while we were getting some toilet paper from the elders and made this out of the blossoms. E Britton took this sweet picture! It was so fun!!

We're on the phone with Charlann! Ahhh! I think E Britton has a towell on his head cuz he was wiping the sweat off his face. I love being totally drenched in humidity everytime you step outside.

We pooped in a baby toilet for the elders.... Hahah JK it is snickers bars!!

#ScripturePower - Our mission created a Facebook page and an event within the page for everyone to post a picture of the Book of Mormon with #scripturepower so that we can start to flood Facebook with the gospel! We will have a different # every month so we are hoping that all of the members will start using the # with us and help share the gospel!

TP from the elders because we ran out

Hudson Falls #4 "Death By May Baskets"

Mi familia!

At the beginning of the week I was feeling soo bleh, but I am doing much better! I have such amazing family, friends and missionaries with me that have helped me lots this week. I seriously thank God everyday that he put me with some of my (now) best friends ever after all the rough-stuff in Bennington. It's so funny how much I was wanting last week to come closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. This week has really given me an opportunity to come closer to heaven!  {heavenward}  I am trying to completely trust Him through every situation. I really do know that He has a plan for me each day. Sister Pew once told me that and I've really learned that on my mission. I'm a little embarrassed about my lack of faith last week, but I have repented and really strengthened it a lot. I'm going to trust God more with everything!

This week we had a few little miracles!!! Every single day we're blessed with something from the Lord! So.. over the past.. all of April, we have been making May baskets for the Hudson Falls Library. We saw it as a great finding tool because they wanted them delivered to the elderly people that visit the library. Great way to talk with people! We serve there every Tuesday and Friday for an hour and a half. It's like a little Downton Abbey loaded with all my fav. books and adorable, classy old ladies so it's basically Brynn's heaven. Well, we got caught up in this May basket crap not realizing what torture it would put us through... so many paper cuts and cramps in our hands. I've been beyond dramatic about the whole thing. I wanted to burn all the May Baskets in America. We made about a hundred cuz they told us to just keep going! ... we ended up using, like, 15. Ugh. I said a prayer that all this "May basket crap" would pay off the way that we thought it would and IT DID!!!! Prayer works guys! It ALL paid off! We delievered them on Thursday. It took forevvver because people wanted to talk to us for so long about what we do :) Fine with us!!! We made so many friends (aka potential members)! Little did we know what would happen the next day. The library celebrated 100 years since it was built and they had a little festival thing. The Elders did some flag ceremony (we couldn't find any boy scouts that would haha they were mad at me for volunteering them) Sarah (librarian) gave a speech and then we had cake, lemonade and kids played games. The whole time, we all talked with all the people we met the day before! Those people LOVED us! People just started asking us over for dinner or to get ice cream or if we could come over and visit them! We were so excited. We got tons of people's numbers, saw a former investigator who asked if we could start teaching him again, and we got tons of potentials! We'll try to pick them all up this week! It was a complete miracle! I've never realized what a great finding tool service could be.

On Saturday we went to the Maple Festival that is held every year in our area. Us and the Elders went with a member and we had a booth set up about the church. It was such a good finding tool. There weren't very many people that seemed interested but we handed out a ton of mormon.orgcards and a couple Book of Mormons! So there are seeds planted!

Also, this week was MLC. We left Thursday night and slept over. The meeting felt really long. It was weird looking around and seeing so many new people in leadership now. It's a super stellar group though which is perfect because we're preparing the mission for President Rogers to come. Seeing Sister Collette was AMAZING!!!! She said that I've changed a lot and I can feel it too!! I'm glad.

Also, we're exchanging with Sister Yancey and Rasheed today after our disctrict activity which is bowling. Sister Rasheed's never been before. Wowzer, it's gonna be interesting. They're having a super rough time in Bennington which obviously breaks my heart. I am SO grateful to Sister Yancey for taking that spot for me. Wow. She's coming to me in G.F.  I'm really thinking that after this exchange, things will be a thousand times better between them. Sometimes you just need to zoom out and refocus, by getting out of your situation for a bit, and I think that's one of the greatest benefits of exchanges. I'll let you know how it goes!
Also, Sister Gochnour is coming to visit on Wednesday with her family!!! Ahhh! Too excited! Love you all!
